Thanks to a lovely generous friend we had a 4D scan yesterday at Babybond in Chelmsford, to see your baby brother.
First things first, he is already one of the most scanned babies in history it feels like. We did however want some time with him away from measurements, just to make a memory or two. I know not everyone approves of 'recreational' scans, and certainly we're aware of the NICE guidleines on minimising scanning, but given our circumstances this was something we wanted to do and our consultant/sonographer at hospital had no issues.
Those who have lost a child know that making memories is so important; when you're scared you might not get the chance to make more it becomes even more so.
We headed off to Babybond, which is just in an office block. The sonographer was lovely and put us at ease, however he was not playing ball and had all four limbs in front of his face
Second time, he wouldn't show us his face at all. I started to get a bit stressed, not because I thought there was anything wrong with him, but because I realised how much I had been banking on seeing him. We went and sat in another room, me trying a cold drink, lying on my side, and kneeling with my bum in the air! We did have a good moment when we played a recording of Sofie singing 'You are my sunshine' to my bump and he kicked the phone off my belly! Your brother loves his sister's voice.
Third time he still hid behind his hands, and I was starting to get so upset - normally they only bring you back once or twice on a day; preferring to bring you back a few days later because of time etc., but I was so upset the sonographer was really kind and really wanted us to get our shots on the day - she knew how important it was to me. At that point though, when they suggested going for lunch, I was seriously thinking of going home - I felt so low.
After lunch we headed back. Daddy and I had already decided that if we didn't get some shots this time we'd just leave, we couldn't take it any more. After a long wait (the lovely receptionist suggested we go last so we could take as long as we needed) we finally got in and your brother finally behaved enough to show us his beautiful face.
We were so very happy at last, even though the day in total was 7 hours long lol!
So a happy ending. Nothing's ever quite easy for us, but we did get there in the end. It was a really wonderful gift and we have some wonderful memories.
